Calling Spots: Elimination Chamber 2025
Making story-based predictions for the latest WWE Premium Live Event
At its core, professional wrestling is storytelling. The in-ring athleticism is an incredible bonus, but it’s all in service to the narrative being told onscreen on a week-to-week basis. Think of it as Game of Thrones with more powerbombs and less incest. Stories have to make sense. Characters do something, and their actions have consequences. Cause and effect. If we follow the breadcrumbs being left by the WWE writing team, perhaps we could figure out where the stories are headed — aka, the results of their matches.
Let’s preview the upcoming WWE Premium Live Event, Elimination Chamber, and make some match predictions based on the ongoing stories being told each week on Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown.
THE UNDERCARD
Before we look ahead, let’s look back and see how our predictions fared last month at the Royal Rumble.
Women’s Royal Rumble Match
Prediction: As much as I would rather she not win the Royal Rumble, Charlotte Flair versus Tiffany Stratton is too good to pass up.
Result: ✅ The higher powers also agree Tiffy Time versus The Queen is money.
WWE Tag Team Championship
2-out-of-3 Falls Match
#DIY (c) vs. Motor City Machine Guns
Prediction: #DIY retains in a high-flying, brutal masterpiece.
Result: ✅ I figured there would be outside interference, but I didn’t anticipate a heel Street Profits debut.
Undisputed WWE Championship Ladder Match
Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens
Prediction: Cody climbs the mountain, KO, and the ladder to retain his championship.
Result: ✅ I still can’t get that Fisherman Buster and Alabama Slam out of my head.
Men’s Royal Rumble Match
Prediction: Lucas Oil Stadium will be shaking with YEETs!
Result: ✅ Jey’s Moneyline was going at +2500 on the betting sites. You’re welcome.
Final Tally
4-for-4. YEET!
Season Record
I’m defining the “end” of the wrestling season as Wrestlemania, which would make the“start” of the wrestling PLE season Backlash.
This brings our prediction season record to 32-for-39.
THE MAIN EVENT
Women’s Elimination Chamber Match
This may be the most difficult prediction I’ve ever had to make since I started this Calling Spots segment. It doesn’t help that the Women’s World Champion is currently in flux, as we won’t know who the reigning champion is until this Monday when Rhea Ripley faces off against Iyo Sky. Let’s eliminate1 a few participants who are the least likely to win outright.
Roxanne Perez is my current favorite NXT superstar (and that’s saying a lot considering Stephanie Vaquer and Giulia are also on that brand). However, Roxy is currently in a feud with Bayley, so I don’t think either are going to take this one. Similarly, Bianca Belair and Naomi are smack dab in the middle of a juicy story surrounding who attacked Jade Cargill (It’s definitely Bianca, right?) That makes me believe the only two realistic options to win are Liv Morgan and Alexa Bliss. Liv versus Rhea feels tired at this point, even though that was a Top Two feud of 2024. Liv versus Iyo is also something we’ve seen a few times recently, which have been fantastic matches so there is a small story developing there. Especially with Rhea accidentally costing Iyo a place in the Elimination Chamber match itself. Alexa is a bonafide main eventer, however, there is currently zero story with her since she returned at the Royal Rumble. The writing team will have a lot of work to do in the next month to make any Alexa match feel like they have real stakes (hello Wyatt Sicks).
Prediction: New tag team champion Liv Morgan continues to roll with (hopefully) a triple threat match at Wrestlemania against both Rhea and Iyo.
Men’s Elimination Chamber Match
Once again, let’s eliminate those who are less likely to win. CM Punk and Seth Rollins feel like they are both on a collision course with Roman Reigns. Damian Priest eliminated Drew McIntyre from the Royal Rumble, so there’s a spark for a feud there even though they haven’t really capitalized on that recently. That leaves the favorite, John Cena, and unfortunately that also leaves Logan Paul.
John losing the Royal Rumble makes sense. He has to earn his title shot, and winning his first attempt at it is not satisfying. But I don’t think he’s going to start his retirement tour with a losing streak. I think he’s going to earn his title shot and Wrestlemania main event. Because if he doesn’t, we’re stuck with that idiot who can’t cut a decent promo.
Prediction: John Cena will headline his final Wrestlemania.
Unsanctioned Match
Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens
Well, this escalated quickly. I don’t have enough paragraphs to recap the history of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. They’ve only needed four weeks to turn this feud white hot. Kevin Owens got Alabama-slammed through a steel ladder, and Sami — his best friend — stood ten feet away and let it happen. I hate to keep siding with KO, but the man has not been wrong these past few months. He has bad friends. Which leads me to believe we’ll get a messy non-finish to keep this storyline going at least through Mania.
Prediction: No winners. No losers. Just chaos.
Tiffany Stratton & Trish Stratus vs. Nia Jax & Candice LeRae
I love Tiffy. I love Trish. But the phrase “Trishy Time” is just not hitting the way they hoped it would. That being said, there’s no way Trish loses in her hometown. There’s no way Tiffy takes a loss this close to Wrestlemania. Both Nia and Candice can afford to take a pin. Nevertheless, this one should be a lot of fun.
Prediction: Tiffy and Trish triumph in Toronto.2
Those are my called spots. Tell me yours! Who do you think is walking out on top at Elimination Chamber?
Pun intended.
